I arrived home at about 8 pm when I was a little fellow, I had been playing marbles and the time got away from me, dad took my marbles off me and after he had screamed at me for what seemed like an hour, he told me to go to bed, I had to come straight home from school for months, I eventually got my marbles back and I learned to go home first and then ask if I could go back out, I was told to always be home before it got dark, I had no idea of the worry that I had caused my parents.

At different schools in we had to make our own ink, there was this black powder that we put in a jug and then we added water and mixed it thoroughly then we went around our classroom with a tray and collected all of the ink wells, took them out to the ink room, filled them with ink and then took them back to the desks. Some schools had a pencil sharpener on the teacher's table at the front of the class, it was a mechanical device whereas you put the pencil in one end and turned a handle at the other end, somebody was always appointed the pencil monitor and his/her job was to sharpen all of the pencils before the class started. I can remember getting home from school at about 8 pm, we were playing marbles on the road, it was a dirt road and we were playing circle, we had a large circle drawn in the dirt with a very small circle in the middle where you had to put your favourite marble and the trick was to a marble out of the big circle and that became yours, we were that intent on the game that when it was dark, we shifted the circle along thr road a bit and played under the street light.

Mandy, I was telling my children about the May pole, whereas once a week we had folk dancing around the may pole with the ribbons coming down from the top of the pole and how each of us weaved under and over each other with the ribbons, they were quite interested, which was a surprise to me. Even though I went to a lot of different schools and things were unsettled, I enjoyed most aspects of my schooling, it all came down to the personality of the individual teacher for me.

I am experimenting with the icons in the create a new post box and I am trying out the colour chart,I went and saw my friend in hospital yesterday, he is recovering from a double knee replacement operation, he is in good spirits.I am an old rail buff, I had some time on the NSW railways and I am a little bit nostalgic, I like to reminisce with old buddies from time to time, it is like my wife and I, we like to talk about our school days and how we were taught different things that are not taught these days, our granddaughter who is 12 was watching an episode of Robbin Hood on the TV a while back and the sheriff was signing a warrant for his men to go into Sherwood forest and arrest Robbin Hood, the sheriff was using a quill to write with and our dear innocent little one said to nan, "did you write with a feather when you went to school", as they say, "out of the mouths of babes".

Thanks Tim for your very explicit instructions on how to get my photo gallery up and running, I still have'nt mastered the size reduction yet, it was very pleasing to see myself advance a little further with my computer knowledge, I was at Berry yesterday to visit a friend and while there she showed me how to cut, copy and paste, it is a great thrill to learn new things. I am off to Fairfield hospital tonight to see a mate who has had two knee replacements, he is in a lot of pain and it feels good to see him pick up when I walk into the ward, my babies have gone back home today and my wife and I miss them so much, once again thank you all for your input to my computer education, this is a new and exciting world for me, it would have been good to have had it in my early days, but so be it.
